We join with the cultural community in celebrating the life of Glenn “Dragon” De Souza who passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025.
Born on July 4, 1956, he was moved by a love and passion for developing the youth in the community. Standing tall on the stilts of tradition, he revolutionised and revitalised Moko Jumbie Mas, using it as a force for change, and laying the foundation for its permanent place of prominence in Trinidad and Tobago Carnival.
His influence stretches far and wide. As the founder of the Dragon Keylemanjahro School of Arts & Culture, he trained over 3,000 bands and helped steer young people away from crime towards discipline, pride, and artistry.
Awarded the Hummingbird Medal Gold in the sphere of culture in 2024, he led the School to perform in the first Moko Jumbie video feature aired on Sesame Street in New York. He also received the Children’s Carnival Award in 2016 and 2018.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this most difficult time. We thank him for his invaluable contributions to our culture.
Rest in Peace. Rise in Power, Dragon
