Port of Spain, Trinidad, Thursday, March 20, 2025: The National Carnival Commission of Trinidad and Tobago (NCC) remembers the life and legacy of Dr. Cyril Anthony Collier, who passed away on March 19, 2025.
With a highly distinguished career in education, drama, and theatre arts spanning six decades, the Tobago-born Dr. Collier championed the pursuit of cultural development and excellence at all levels, inspiring countless others to lead through his dedication and vision.
Dr. Collier was a former Commissioner of the NCC Board who played a pivotal role in shaping the cultural landscape of Trinidad and Tobago. He served on multiple occasions as a Dimanche Gras creative director and a Prime Minister’s Best Village competition adjudicator. He was a Board Director of the Export Centres Company of T&T and served as a senior lecturer at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) until he retired in 2014.
A Public Service Medal of Merit (Gold) recipient in 2019, Dr. Collier recorded many accomplishments, including the completion of his doctoral thesis at the age of 77 with his dissertation entitled “Behind the Mask: A Phenomenological inquiry into the Meanings, Practices and Socio-political Relations of the Dimanche Gras Show from 1999-2015 in Trinidad.”
The NCC extends deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time and joins with the nation in extending heartfelt thanks to Dr. Cyril Collier for his outstanding contributions to our nation and our culture.
