NCC’s Launch of Carnival 2015 & Carnival Industry Development Programme
The National Carnival Commission of T&T will officially launch Carnival 2015, on Wednesday July 23, 2014, at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain.
At the launch, Minister of the Arts and Muticulturalism Dr. Lincoln Douglas will give the feature address, while NCC Chairman Allison Demas will deliver welcome remarks and Acting CEO Mark Byam will report on T&T’’s cultural trip to Zimbabwe.
Economist Dr. Vanus James will launch the new Carnival Industry Development Programme. Dr. James has been commissioned by the NCC to work in collaboration with Carnival stakeholders to shape a development programme for the carnival industry.
The resulting Carnival Industry Development Programme has four main components:
- Awareness building and sensitization of the population, as well as measurement and strengthening the Science-Democracy-Policy Interface.
- Developing and exploiting the market potential of Carnival.
- Risk management and financing for Carnival industries.
- Upgrade of the infrastructure for the Carnival industry, with specific reference to (i) Security; (ii) Health; (iii) Physical infrastructure; (iii) Education and Training; and (iv) ICT.
Dr. James, is a former Senior Fellow and Professor of Economics at the University of Technology, Jamaica and is currently the International Consultant for the World Intellectual Property Organisation, measuring the contribution of copyright to Caribbean Economies. Since January, he has led the NCC’s Joint Carnival Policy-Making Process with its stakeholder community.
