Beloved Old Mas Characters Square Off At Bocas Lit Fest 2018
Port of Spain, Trinidad, April 26, 2018: This Saturday, April 28, Old Mas will light up the Hart Street Arcade at NALIS, Port of Spain, as several beloved mas characters take to the stage in a mélange of culture, creativity, expression, and literary prowess at the Annual Bocas Lit Fest 2018.
Starting at 5 pm, the public will be treated to a formidable Old Mas display as the Festival explores the theme of “Words meet costumes and performance in T&T’s traditional protest masquerade.”
Commenting on the initiative, NCC Chairman, Winston Peters said, “It is important that we, as a people, celebrate the traditional aspects of our festival at every chance and turn that we get.”
"Inasmuch as the NCC strives to do this regularly, we also always welcome and strive to unlock opportunities where we can work with others, outside of the Season, as we pursue a shared goal of promoting the sustainability of our culture and its many diverse products.”
“We commend Festival Founder/Director Marina Salandy Brown and the various hardworking Bocas Lit Fest committees on their efforts in organising an impressive line-up and for including one of our most beloved aspects of our Carnival traditions in this year’s slate of activities,” Peters added.
The Old Mas Competition begins at 5 pm and is open to the public. For more information, please check out the Bocas Lit Fest’s website at bocaslitfest.com or on their Facebook page at facebook.com/bocaslitfest/.
