NCC Celebrates The Life Of Singing Sandra
Port of Spain, Trinidad: Thursday, January 28, 2021: The National Carnival Commission of Trinidad and Tobago (NCC) joins with the national community in noting the passing, and celebrating the life of cultural titan and beloved calypsonian, Sandra Des Vignes-Millington, better known as Singing Sandra, who passed away on January 28, 2021.
Singing Sandra, a two-time Calypso Monarch, built an unforgettable musical career, in the face of hardships and struggle, to become one of our nation’s most celebrated calypsonians in recent history.
Many of her heartrending songs - Sexy Employers, Voices from the Ghetto, and Ancient Rhythms for example – did more than just entertain the Carnival faithful; turning the spotlight on pressing socioeconomic issues, such as racism, poverty, and gender inequality, and inspiring countless others, including a generation of women to aspire to greatness.
Singing Sandra’s legacy stands tall as testimony of an icon who surmounted the odds on her inimitable journey to becoming a true legend.
She will be dearly missed.
